Terms of membership

Membership Agreement.

Every member signs this agreement when her membership is confirmed and the first payment of the annual patronage is made. It sets out the twelve-month commitment, the statutory cooling-off period, and the charge that applies to an early departure.

Version 2026-08-CLSC-1 · Governed by the laws of England and Wales

In short

  • Membership runs for a fixed term of twelve months and the full annual patronage is payable.
  • Paying in two instalments is a convenience of payment only — it does not create a six-month membership, and the second instalment remains due.
  • You may cancel free of charge within 14 days of signing, as the law provides.
  • After that, an early cancellation charge of 33.3% of the annual patronage applies, together with any unpaid instalment.

1. The parties and the agreement

This Membership Agreement is made between Chelsea Ladies Social Club (“the Club”) and the individual named in the signature panel (“the Member”). It takes effect on the date the Member signs it and the first payment of the annual patronage is received.

Membership is personal, non-transferable and open to women aged twenty-five and above whose application has been approved by the founding committee.

2. Term — a full twelve-month commitment

Membership is granted for a fixed term of twelve consecutive months from the commencement date. The Member commits to the full annual patronage for that entire term.

Where the Member has elected to divide the annual patronage into two payments, the second payment falls due six months after commencement. The instalment facility is a convenience of payment only: it does not shorten the twelve-month commitment, and it does not create a six-month membership. The full annual patronage remains payable in either case.

The Member may not suspend, part-pay or discontinue the annual patronage part-way through the term, and no refund is given for unused months, absence, or non-attendance at events.

3. Fees

The annual patronage is that of the tier stated in the signature panel: Founding Membership at £1,000 per year, limited to the first twenty-five members, or Standard Membership at £1,200 per year thereafter.

Event tickets, guest places and concierge arrangements are charged separately and are not included in the annual patronage.

Where an instalment or the cancellation charge remains unpaid, the Club may suspend booking privileges until the balance is settled.

4. Statutory right to cancel (cooling-off period)

Under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, the Member has 14 calendar days from the day this agreement is concluded to cancel without giving any reason and without charge.

To exercise this right, the Member submits a cancellation request from the Members Area, or writes to the committee before the cooling-off period ends. Any patronage already paid is refunded in full, less a proportionate amount for any events already attended or arranged at the Member’s request.

5. Cancellation after the cooling-off period

After the 14-day cooling-off period the Member remains committed to the full twelve-month term. The Member may nevertheless bring the membership to an end early by giving written notice and paying an early cancellation charge of 33.3% of the total annual patronage — £333 on a Founding Membership and £399.60 on a Standard Membership.

The cancellation charge is a genuine pre-estimate of the Club’s costs in reserving a place, planning the season’s programme and administering the membership. It is payable in addition to any patronage instalment that has already fallen due and remains unpaid.

Membership privileges continue until the end of the paid period unless the Club agrees otherwise. Automatic renewal is switched off as soon as notice is given, and the membership will not renew for a further term.

6. Renewal

Unless notice is given, the membership renews automatically for a further twelve months at the tier rate then in force. A reminder is sent a fortnight before renewal, and the Member may decline renewal at any time before the renewal date at no charge.

7. Conduct, discretion and privacy

The Club is founded on discretion. Members undertake not to photograph, record, publish or repeat the private affairs of other members, and not to use the membership list for solicitation or commercial promotion.

The Club may suspend or terminate a membership, without refund, where conduct is incompatible with the Club’s standards of courtesy, discretion and trust.

8. Events, tickets and guests

Places at events are limited and allocated in order of reservation. Event tickets are non-refundable within seven days of an event, as commitments to houses, restaurants and hosts are made in advance. A place may be passed to another member with the committee’s consent.

The Club may alter a programme, venue or host where circumstances require, and will offer a comparable arrangement or a credit where an event cannot proceed.

9. Data

Personal details are held to administer membership, bookings and payments, and are never sold or shared for marketing. The Member may request a copy of their data or its deletion, subject to records the Club must retain for legal and accounting purposes.

10. Governing law

This agreement is governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction. Nothing in this agreement limits the Member’s statutory rights as a consumer.
